Why did we start?
As an extension of the school, we are involved in tackling the basic amenities problems faced by the parents of the organization children. Providing authorized electricity connection at concessional rates, clean drinking water supply and drainage facility approved by the municipal authority were some of the utility projects taken up by the society. An offshoot of this utility project was that the students were able to allocate more time for the studies which was earlier denied to them due to lack of drinking water and electricity.
What do we do?
A weekly medical clinic is made available to give primary health checks to the families of the students to identify nutritional defects, any symptoms of future serious ailments and guide them appropriately for further treatment. Basic medication is provided and medical records are maintained meticulously. Hygiene and health care awareness camps are also conducted periodically. A health camp with different specialties is conducted every year to meet their various medical needs of the families. Counseling services are also extended regularly to appraise, guide and sort out problems of meager financial resources, addiction to liquor, drugs, serious health ailments etc. and underline the importance of a conducive atmosphere to studying children at home too.
Parents are part of the service:
The parents of the children are requested to take part in medical camps conducted quarterly at the school premises for the students as well as for the parents. The mothers are given training in tailoring after the school hours at the school. Community prayers are held with multi-religious songs to inculcate that religions may be many but god is one. Festivals of all religions are celebrated in the school to promote religious harmony. These activities help the parents to give them a feeling of being a part of the whole project. Parents’ education is conducted once a week.
Community Service:
The school also functions as a community service centre. The local slum people have been provided relief during the floods in the Twin cities. They were provided with food and clothing along with shelter during their times of need.
The slum has now been provided with regular drinking water supply. Separate water connections were given to them by laying pipelines. The slum people actively participated in the program by their shramdhan forth entire work. Their drainage system is also now greatly improved under the AP Governments janmabhoomi scheme. All these facilities have improved the living conditions of the residents who now actively participate in all activities initiated for their well being. They now look up to the school authorities for any problems in their locality.
Tailoring classes for the young girls and interested ladies in the slum is also provided with the help of the Vocational training institutes. Certificates are also issued after due completion of the course. This provides enough skill to the ladies and girls to take up alternative methods of self employment to support their families. Parents education will be conducted once a week.
