đ Introduction
In todayâs worldâwhere academic competition is intense, and technology evolves faster than values can catch upâinstilling human values in school education has never been more essential. At Sri Satya Sai Vidya Mandir, the educational wing of Sai Seva Sangh, we believe that true education is one that balances the head and the heart. Weâre not just creating scholarsâweâre shaping responsible, compassionate citizens of tomorrow.
đ§ What Are Human Values and Why Do They Matter in Education?
Human values are universal principles that guide behavior and decision-making. These include:
-
Compassion
-
Honesty
-
Respect
-
Responsibility
-
Gratitude
-
Empathy
-
Service-mindedness
Incorporating these values in school education:
-
Builds emotional intelligence
-
Encourages ethical decision-making
-
Promotes inclusivity and respect for all
-
Fosters resilience and mental well-being
đ± The Foundation Must Begin Early
Scientific research and child psychology both point to early childhood as the most critical period for value formation. When students learn the “why” behind being kind, truthful, and helpful, they begin to practice these values organicallyânot out of fear or obligation, but from inner conviction.
At Sri Satya Sai Vidya Mandir, we introduce values not as a subject, but as a way of life.
𧥠A Real Story from Our School: The Power of Prayer and Belief
Years ago, during a session on faith and prayer, one of our students, Gayathri, asked a profound question:
âCan prayer help if we donât act?â
I answered with a simple analogy: You canât taste the sweetness of a laddu without putting it in your mouth. Likewise, prayer only works when combined with belief and action.
A few days later, Gayathriâwhose family was struggling with poverty, illness, and hungerâprayed deeply, chanting the Gayatri mantra 21 times. On her 11th chant, help arrived: a friend of the school came by with food and sweets. Gayathri ran to me in tears, saying, âMy prayer worked!â
That moment taught me a timeless truth:
Children remember, internalize, and implement what we teach when the time is right.
